Zaïra Ros, an enthusiastic and spontaneous personality, enjoys being behind the wheel as well as working among the people. This can also clearly be seen in her role at Farm Trans: she’s not just a driver — she also helps out in the Fleet department! Zaïra had wanted to become a driver for some time. She found out about Farm Trans through her sister, and after sending an e-mail and one impromptu phone call, Zaïra was able to immediately begin by way of a special training programme: “When I was tipped that Farm Trans was looking for truck drivers, I thought: this is perfect!”

What motivated Zaïra to start working as a driver at Farm Trans? Zaïra explains: “It had been my dream for ages. I wasn’t sure at first, because you don't become a truck driver just like that. “I enjoyed being on the road, and I felt it was just something I really had to do.” Studying for the theoretical part was difficult. The way Farm Trans organised the entire training process helped me enormously and ensured that I was able to fly down the path to obtaining my HGV licence!”

Choosing between Farm Trans Bulk Logistics and Farm Trans Fresh & Frozen was easy, according to Zaïra: “What appealed to me most of all at Bulk Logistics is that you primarily visit the farmers. You often drive by the most beautiful places, because you need to go to the countryside. I really love that!” The Bulk Planning and Fleet departments are in close consultation when deciding which days Zaïra can work in Fleet: “They take my schedule into account.”

Zaïra describes the path to obtaining the HGV licence as fun. As a driver, you are faced with new situations every day, which means you are constantly learning new things. Zaïra explains further: “I am very well aware that I am not driving in a little car but in a large vehicle. Once I had my licence, I came across a number of obstacles. Facing these obstacles really helped, because this is the best way to learn. I am always in touch with the Academy while at Farm Trans; they are really training me well.

When asked what the best part of being a driver is, she immediately has an answer: “I actually like everything! I like being on the road, driving to the farmers with good music on or a podcast. There's always a warm welcome at the farm with a cup of coffee. The best part of my role in the Fleet department is the camaraderie. The atmosphere is good, and the work I get to do is quite varied.” Zaïra also thinks back on precarious situations, telling us: “I was once driving through a dark forest and I got lost. I also had a flat tyre once. These situations have made me stronger.”

Zaïra is looking ahead towards the future: “In a couple of years, I see myself as an experienced driver who has come a long way. I also want to show how super fun it can be for women and that you can really enjoy this work enormously!” Lastly, Zaïra shares the following with us: “The special training programme was great: it was fast, and I’m glad I did it. Never give up, no matter what the situation! At first, I was really stressed about the exam.. But, throughout the entire process, I always stayed positive, and now look how far I have come and how much fun I am having.”
