“No day is the same. When I work in emergency support service, for example, you never know what to expect, but I am entrusted with being able to resolve these kinds of tasks.”

Roy Ouwerkerk (26) has now been working at Farm Trans for nearly 12 years and he still enjoys it. “I started working as a holiday replacement worker at Farm Trans through my brother. After a while, Farm Trans first offered to train me as company car technician so I could join the permanent staff.” Roy seized this opportunity.
After he completed this training, Roy successfully finished another training programme as second company car technician at what is now the Rotterdam Technical College. “During the first few years, I primarily focused on repairing our bulk trailers, but lately, I have largely focused on repairing the cooling systems of our temperature-controlled trailers.” But, if something else breaks down, he is happy to jump in and give his colleagues a hand.

The variety in the work is what Roy finds to be one of the best aspects. “No day is the same. When I work in emergency support service, for example, you never know what to expect, but I am entrusted with being able to resolve these kinds of tasks.” There are work instructions for many of the repair jobs, but if these are unavailable, Roy and his colleagues figure it out together. “MacGyvering is what we call it.”
With a team of 11 mechanics, Roy is enjoying his work. About his future: “I am still learning new things here. I want to continue to work in the workshop, in any case.”
