As part of an internship at Farm Trans it is also possible to carry out a research project. Our Fleet Assistant Analyst Coen Boerema (27) completed such a project and was offered a job. “The research concerned reducing the amount of time that the fleet stands still, a broad and interesting topic. The findings were rolled out at the end the project, but this did not immediately resolve the issue. That is why I found it only logical to keep on pasting, in order to illustrate it.”

During his “Logistics Engineering” study, Coen had been introduced to all tasks involved in logistics. So, the transport sector was not completely unfamiliar: “During my study, I mapped out which kind of companies I wanted to do internship for so I could learn more about the logistics sector. I knew I wanted to experience the transport sector, which forms a major part of logistics.”

Coen has by now been working as a Fleet Assistant Analyst for some time. He fondly looks back on his great research period in which Farm Trans played a special role. “Anything was possible. I was warmly welcomed right away and Farm Trans was very accommodating for me as a student.” Coen also refers to the research role he fulfilled as a unique time: “During this period, I was given much freedom and access to anything I needed. It was really very open. They were very accommodating.”

Coen is currently focusing on converting his research into concrete actions and the implementation thereof, among others. In addition, Coen also compiles various reports about the fleet: how the workshop is functioning or a cost report. Step by step, Coen's task package is beginning to take shape. Coen also explains that he enjoys working on digitisation and technology: “I am really keen on making data digital, compiling reports and clarifying matters.”

Coen looks back on an great period and he still enjoying himself today: “I almost always work at the office because it's just such a great atmosphere.” Coen's last advice for students is to encourage them to be sure to enter into discussion with many companies about exploratory/research internships. This way, you can easily determine whether a company suits you or not. “I have noticed that it is much easier to complete your internship if you work at a company that suits you, where you feel comfortable with the people around you and the work.”
